The Costa Brava, located in Catalonia in the province of Girona, stretches 200 km from Blanes to Port Bou on the French border. This makes the Costa Brava an area frequented by tourists travelling by car. Commune located on the Costa Brava, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea south of Cap de Creus . Rosas borders two natural parks: Cap Creus to the north and Aiguamolls to the south-east. The Albères park, a medium altitude Pyrenean massif serving as a border between France and Spain, is also close by. In 2011, Rosas Bay was admitted to the reduced club of the most beautiful bays in the world. It is beginning to accommodate some medium-sized cruise ships. Its privileged geographical situation means that it was often colonised from the Greeks until the 8th century. The oldest remains found on the spot date from the 5th century BC. and the city reached its peak in the 3rd century BC. Decadence began with the arrival of the Romans in the 2nd century BC. and lasted until the 8th century AD.
The construction of the present parish church of Santa Maria began in 1792 and continued in the first half of the 19th century in the neo-classical style.
Three "modernist" houses (Art-Nouveau) from the beginning of the century are located in Plaça de Catalunya, next to the town hall. The municipal theatre was built in 2006, in the post-modern style (architects: Joan Tarrus, Jordi Bosch and Manuel Bosch). The famous restaurant El Buli de Ferran Adria, classified several times as "best restaurant in the world" in the year 2000, is at the exit of Roses, in the small cove called Calla Montjoi.
The Romans had already settled in this coastal region so welcoming which counts several fishing villages where one can still today find some wonders, as the castle of Tossa de Mar for example. Its mild climate is characterized by temperatures that do not go down in negative in winter and do not exceed 30°C in summer.
